Frequently Asked Questions
What are your qualifications?
I've been a sailor for about ten years. I have taken the American Sailing Association courses 101, 103, and 104. For a short time I was an assistant coach for a local high school sailing program and taught some adult lessons for the same organization. Through the summer months I race weekly on a Tartan Ten, continually building and reinforcing my skills. I also obtained my US Coast Guard Captain's License, 25-ton masters, in 2021. Most importantly, I have a passion for sailing and enjoy sharing that with people.
What should I bring and what should I wear?
You should wear something cool and comfortable. While we mostly try to avoid getting wet, it can happen. Quick dry materials work well in this instance. If it's going to be a chilly day, dress in layers. The best shoes to wear are non-slip and non-marking. Closed toe is best because a stubbed toe is the worst. Flip flops are not safe.
Other things to bring include, but are not limited to: sunscreen, water, a hat, sunglasses (polarized are best), a snack, seasickness remedies if you are prone to this. Eating a meal before boating can also help with seasickness.
If you have a life jacket that you are comfortable with and like to wear, feel free to bring it. If not, I have one for you.
Where are you located?
The boat is located at a marina in Cleveland, very near downtown. You will receive more information when you schedule your lesson.
How and when can I schedule a lesson?
Give me a ring! 216-626-SAIL(7245) is the number to reach me. I know it seems kinda old school, but I like to get to feel for your interest in sailing and ask a few questions about your past sailing experience and future goals. Lesson times are up to you! I'm very flexible and am willing to accommodate students days, evenings, and weekends.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash is great and so is a Card (2.7% processing fee will be applied).
I can accept payments via CashApp, Venmo, PayPal, and GPay.
I can also take a check made payable to SailingCLE Limited.
Will I get seasick?
Maybe? If you've been seasick before, or suffer from other types of motion sickness, then I suppose it's a possibility. Be sure to bring any appropriate medication or other remedies with you. Also consider eating a meal before coming out. If you end up feeling a little squishy while we're out there, we can always head back in pretty quickly. We won't be far from the dock.
How can I find out more about the Boat Co-Op?
The Boat Co-Op is a great way to continue your journey in learning to sail while having more autonomy and freedom. This opportunity is currently available to sailors that can demonstrate an acceptable level of safety and proficiency on the boat. If you're interested in becoming a member for the remainder of the 2024 season, or for the 2025 season, please get in touch via phone call, text message, or email.
