Sailboat Co-Op

At SailingCLE,  teaching people how to sail is the primary goal. When a student completes the Make Me a Sailor program, they often ask me, "How can I continue to sail and improve the skills that I just learned?"

Many cities have a Sailing Center, where one can become a member for a very reasonable cost, continue to learn about sailing, and use the boats that are owned and maintained by the Sailing Center. Unfortunately, Cleveland does not have a Sailing Center yet.

Boat rental would be another logical thought to get out on the water with some autonomy, but there is only one place to rent a sailboat in Cleveland.

Maybe the student has a friend with a boat. This is a great way to get out on the water, but not everyone has a friend with a boat.

Finally, maybe the student is lucky enough to have enough money to go buy a boat, find and pay for a dock and storage, and learn all about boat ownership. This is a fantastic route to follow with the right amount of time and money, though it can be a steep learning curve and sometimes a headache.

This is why the Boat Co-op was started. A 1976 Catalina 22 was acquired in the fall of 2023 and after some repairs, improvements, and upgrades she was splashed in June of 2024. This boat share is an opportunity that SailingCLE is proud to offer.

Novice and Seasoned Sailors

For a flat seasonal fee, you can have shared access to this Catalina 22 for the summer through a fractional lease. When you become a member, you are given a bank of points, and these points are used to bid on available time slots. Each day is divided into a day slot and an evening/overnight slot. The rules for bidding are detailed and designed to be fair for all the members.
